DRUMS - Fritzingertown Senior Living Community will have its 15th annual Halloween "Safe" trick-or-treat at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at its location, 159 S. Old Turnpike Road.

A meeting was held at St. John's Church Hall with 24 members in attendance. Secretary and treasurer reports were given and accepted. Winners of the 50/50 were Lottie Yankoski, Adele Yevich and Mary Sisky. Coffee and cake were served and games played.

MOUNTAIN TOP - The Marian Sutherland Kirby Library will sponsor an AARP Driver Safety Program class from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 10 and 12. Students must attend both sessions in order to receive a certificate. Self-tests are used for evaluation of knowledge and behaviors.

The classroom course focuses on age-related changes, is designed for adults age 50 and over, and includes group interaction and discussion. Pennsylvania mandates a 5 percent discount on auto insurance for drivers age 55 and over who complete the course. Spouses must take the course, and there can be no recent chargeable claims and no high-risk drivers on the policy to qualify for the reduced rate, which is effective for three years. Persons with specific questions on eligibility should contact their insurance company.

Interested persons must register in advance at the library, 35 Kirby Ave., Mountain Top, or by calling 474-9313. Students should be sure to bring driver's licenses and pens or pencils to the first class, along with a check or money order for $10 per person payable to AARP.

PITTSTON - Colleen Jones will give a presentation, "Depression & Suicide in the Elderly," at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Pittston Senior Center. The public is welcome.

A day trip is scheduled for American Music Theatre on Nov. 2. Cost is $68 which includes the Christmas show at the theater, dinner at Shady Maple Smorgasbord and round-trip motorcoach transportation.

Farmers Market vouchers are still available at the center; they are distributed from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and are valid until Nov. 30.

PITTSTON TWP. - The Big Band Society of NEPA is holding its monthly dinner dance Oct. 6 at Convention Hall. Entertainment will be provided by The Statesmen. The dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m. with dancing from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per person. Paid reservations must be made by Friday. For reservations, call Mike Rostock at 654-1027. Membership is open; new members welcome.

WILKES-BARRE - Firwood Seniors will be visiting Culinary Institute and Woodbury Commons Mall, Oct. 12, bus leaves the Firwood parking lot at 9 a.m., and Mount Haven, Nov. 9.

In addition, a trip to Keuka Wine Trail will take place Dec. 2 and is open to the public. The trip includes admission to the wineries, sampling of hearty winter wines, grapevine wreath at the first winery, an ornament from each participating winery and a free holiday wine glass. Other trips include Valentine Tea at Sugar's, Feb. 15; "The Full Monty," Dutch Apple Theater, March 7; Doris Duke Farm and Gardens, April 18; and New Berlin InnA and Country Cupboard, May 9.

WILKES-BARRE - St. Therese Senior Citizens are planning a number of events; there are still openings for the scheduled bus trips in October, November and next year. Lorraine Loftus is chairperson.

The September meeting was attended by 79 members. The organization will have a spaghetti dinner for members and guests Oct. 9 at the church hall, Old River Road.

Joe Kelly, chairman, announced that the Christmas party will be held at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at Konefal's Restaurant, Edwardsville. Reservations are due by Nov. 6.

Otto Eime outlined the trips to Vermont, Oct. 13 to 17, and Lancaster, Nov. 15. Trips in 2007 include Rosedale, N.Y.; Highland, N.Y.; Hershey Farms; and Wildwood Crest, N.J. Reservations and information are available at 474-0641.

Reports were submitted by Lorraine Loftus, president; Barbara Elgonitis, vice president; Regina Molitoris, secretary; and Frank Forlin, secretary. A report was made of "notes of remembrance" for the late Ruth Evans, a longtime member.

Adi Patterson was music director for group singing; Ed Witkoski is entertainment chairman; Peggy Hunter is in charge of the summer committee; and Jane Thomas is membership chairperson.

WYOMING - The Wyoming, West Wyoming Seniors met in September at Our Lady of Sorrows Hall with Frank Perfinski presiding and 38 members present. Opening prayer was read by Marie Mattina, vice president. "God Bless America" was sung and the Pledge of Alliance was recited. Olga Mizin, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting which was accepted. Marion Pocceschi, acting secretary, read the treasury report and it was accepted.

Raffle winners were Stella Antos, Frank Perfinski and Annabelle Casaagrande. Plans for the Halloween social were completed. The Christmas party was discussed; it will be held Dec. 5.
