The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has said the feature was standard on 40 percent of all 2006 passenger vehicles and optional on another 15 percent.
A study by the Insurance Institute found electronic stability control could lead to a reduction of 10,000 traffic deaths a year if all vehicles had the equipment.
