The Motor Traders Association had opposed a system adopted by IAG, trading as NRMA Insurance, which required smash repairers to quote for work based on pictures and descriptions on a website.

NSW Premier Morris Iemma said today that as part of a final settlement of the dispute, a new code of conduct for the insurers and smash repairers will be enshrined in law.

“NRMA has agreed its customers be given the freedom to choose a repairer (of their choice) at no extra cost,” Mr Iemma told Parliament.
